Just last last practicum, week 4 was bittersweet.
I was very nervous to see how the culminating task would go. It seemed like students were very anxious about having enough time to complete it, which in turn made me very anxious as time is not something I had on my side. By the end of the week however, mostly every student had completed and presented their project. Some of them were exceptional, and made me very proud and happy to think about al the learning that occurred.
Saying goodbye to the staff and especially students was tough. They made me a card that nearly made me cry right then and there and made me promise I would come back and visit them. This practicum has certainly been a pivotal moment in my journey through this career. It has made me realize many things
1. I am ready to have a class of my own
2. I have a LOT to learn
3. Not to sweat the small stuff
4. Making that initial connection with your students is far more valuable than anything else you can do in the classroom
5. I might prefer to teach a core class vs. rotary Phys Ed...
I hope you have all enjoyed and learned as much in your practicums as I have.
Hey Hannah!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that the culminating geography project worked out! I remember your planning process and how you kept going over the questions to make sure the students would understand it and would actually be engaged in it. It's wonderful to see that the students did a fantastic job! (Because your culminating task rocked, of course!)
I felt the same when I had assigned the grade 8s the poetry culminating task, because I too knew that time was not on my side either. However, somehow it worked out great for the two of us, no doubt.
I had such a good time during my practicum, since I was able to have a wonderful class as you did, in addition have awesome teacher candidates to spend my lunches with! I still remember you, Gab, & Cam all helping me out to cut out circles during lunch. Thanks for having my back.
POINT # 5, shocked me because I know how much you love phys-ed, so this practicum must have been great as you saw the benefits of having a core class too!
You did a stunning job, and I'm proud of you!
