Week One

Well this is certainly a new experience for me.  Being out of the gym (and my comfy clothes!) and into a Grade 8 core classroom is a bit of a departure.  I must admit, at first I was a little worried about how it would go and how the skills that I have developed in the gym would transfer into the classroom.  I have been very happily surprised, however.  Being in a core classroom is great.  I know just about every student in my class 100 times better than any ONE student that I knew last practicum.  It's a very nice rapport to be able to build.  As far as teaching goes, I feel as though my classroom management skills that I was able to develop in the gym are paying off big time.

I am starting to feel more and more comfortable in a "regular" classroom setting, and am trying new things while I am teaching.  One thing that I have made sure of is to stick to my roots.  I have tried to stay as true to myself and my teaching philosophy as I can while in practicum.

Hope everyone's first week was good! I am exhausted already and looking forward to my first March Break in years!

  1. This is a comment I have about comfy clothes.
If you are teaching phys ed - you should still have professional attire.
You clothes that are more loose and flexible for dealing with phys ed activities are essential.
Running shoes and sweats seems to be the norm - but we should re-examine that.
However, to maintain a professional relationship with students that professional attire must be there.
    How do you balance that?
If you come home after a hard day's work and don't change into something more comfortable, then you have not dressed professionally for work.
Think professional, yet think practical for phys ed.
